Slammers Double Abbies
Wed. Nov. 14, 2007
The Woodstock Slammers (20-3-0-2) doubled the Charlottetown Jr. Abbies (11-9-1-2) 6-3 Wednesday night in Woodstock.
John Chayka led the Slammers with 2 goals while Paul Roebothan added 1 goal and 2 assists while John Chayka added 2 goals.  Jarrett Paul opened the scoring at 16:34 to give the Slammers a 1-0 lead after the first period. Adam Verrette tied the game 1-1 when he scored for the Jr. Abbies at 3:18. Ky Moje regained the Woodstock lead when he scored at 6:52. Chayka scored at 13:54 to increase the lead to 3-1. Brogan Bailey (on the powerplay, game winner) scored at 15:52 to give Woodstock a 4-1 lead after the second period. Roebothan (on the powerplay) added to the lead when he scored at 6:28 to make it 5-1 until Jesse MacIntyre (shorthanded) and Itan Chavira scored 52 seconds apart to cut the lead to 5-3. Chayka (with his second of the game) rounded out the scoring.  Woodstock went 2 for 4 on the powerplay while Charlottetown went 0 for 6.  Ben MacFarlane stopped 25 of 28 shots for the win while Seth Wolfe stopped 28 of 34 shots in the loss.

"The Abbies had 3 powerplay opportunities in the first period but we managed to hold them to only 6 shots in the first period so I can't complain about our defensive play.  Our offence kicked in the second and third period but at the same time we took some unecessary gambles that didn't pay off and the Abbies capitalize on them.  We need to learn from those mistakes to become a better hockey team.  We need to be meantally strong for 60 minutes" commented Coach Tatarnic.
